POSTPONEMENT

The 2020 Toronto CARM Convention has been postponed due to the risks associated with the outbreak of the Covid19 virus.

A revised date will be announced once it is clear that the convention can proceed without risk to delegates, organizers, clinicians, layout hosts and others involved in the successful execution of this event.

The Spring 2020 issue of The Canadian as well as the Winter 2020 issue carry articles describing some of the layouts which will be on display for delegates to the future convention. Keep these issues for future reference.

See the HOME page for more information.

If you have questions not answered on the convention web site before the convention begins, please email ianmc@eol.ca with "Help" in the subject line.

There may be a different email address during the convention.

Questions already asked and their answers will be listed below.

Questions and Answers

  1. Is Humber Lakeshore the same place the Toronto Railway Prototype Modellers meets have been held?

No, that's Humber North. They are about 20 km and a half hour drive apart.
See the "Location" page in the menu above.

  2. Is this the same place as the 2010 Toronto CARM Convention?

    Yes and no.
The 2010 convention was and this 2020 convention will be at Humber Lakeshore. One parking lot and the residence are the same.
The 2010 convention was mostly in two classrooms in Building B with the M&G and AGM in a larger room (the Blue Room) in Building A, and the registration desk near the northwest entrance in Building A.
This time all the on-campus convention activities will be in one convention activity room. We thought that would be Room L1017 in Building L, in the Humber East Campus, but it turned out that was significantly more expensive. Now we have to wait until March to learn the actual room. It will probably be in Building A or B.

The convention activity room location will be announced in March.
See the "Location" page in the menu above.

  3. I am a little confused about the registration for a room.
To stay at the Humber Lakeshore Residence: Reservations do not open until April.
CARM will have a block of 10 two-room suites reserved until March 9, at $82 per night.
After March 9 this block and this price may not be available.
How do you reserve a room in the block if can't reserve a room until a month after the offer closes?

Your confusion is more understandable than the instructions were.
First, there were two separate offers and portals: the CARM portal, working since February 24, and a general-public portal, to be created by Humber in mid-April.
    Second, new and better wording:
If you want to stay at the Humber Lakeshore Residence after the CARM block of suites are all booked:
Starting mid-April, suites will be available to the general public via a different portal.
Information on that portal will be added here when we get it.
Once it is, contact Humber College at that portal.
Make sure they know you want to stay at the Humber Lakeshore Residence (not Humber North Residence).
    Third, additional wording:
You will also be able to book a room possibly at Humber or definitely elsewhere using one of:
        www.trivago.com, www.booking.com, www.hotwire.com, www.expedia.ca, www.priceline.com, www.airbnb.ca, etc.
    And:
If you are unable to book a suite after contacting Humber College, please email Ian McIntosh at ianmc@eol.ca.
